Training Philosophy

We are a NAUI Pro-Platinum facility which means we have the expertise to train all levels of divers from beginners to instructors. We teach with the NAUI method which stresses safety at all levels. Our instructors ensure that your course is relaxed, complete and fun. We want you to be completely comfortable and competent when we issue you your certification so that you will enjoy many years of diving.

How does Rum Runner Training compare to other certifications?

You will hear claims that one certifying agency is better than another and that their course is more complete than ours. While fun is the ultimate goal complete training is important for safe diving and each dive shop has the responsibility to provide the best training based on their own certifying agency standards. We take no short cuts, no abbreviated training here. We train to the NAUI standards. A few examples of what we do - Yes we train with weight belts, which are not uncomfortable by the way, but if you travel you might need to borrow one in a far off place and you really should be able to use one. Our basic diver course almost universally includes a boat dive. If we cannot complete a boat dive due to weather we will arrainge for an instructor or divemaster to be available on your first boat dive. The NAUI advanced course requires a deep dive to recreational dive limits (130 feet) with an instructor, other shops claim that their basic divers are trained to the level of NAUI advanced yet they only train in a quarry (max depth 80 cold feet) and NAUI is the ONLY certifying agency that REQUIRES training in diver rescue in their basic course.

So before you sign up for training anywhere, talk to the staff of the dive shop, ask questions. Then decide and for safety sake don't take the short training road. In the long run you will have more fun.
